Three things to do before the truck arrives
Any one of these can cut the damage in half. Do what’s safe and skip the rest.
Shut off the water
The main valve is usually where the line enters the house — garage, crawlspace door, or near the water heater. Turn clockwise. For a single fixture, use the small valve under it.
Kill power near standing water
If water is near outlets, the water heater, or the panel, switch off those breakers. Don’t step in water to reach a switch.
Stop using drains
If sewage is backing up, stop flushing and running water anywhere in the building — it all goes to the same blocked line.
Open the door for us
Clear a path to the water heater, crawlspace, or the fixture that failed. Corral pets. Have a flashlight handy if power is off.

The on-call plumber’s first job is to stop the water. Once it’s stopped and the damage isn’t growing, they’ll show you what failed and give you a price for the repair. If a full fix needs a part we don’t carry on the truck, you’ll hear that plainly, along with what we can do tonight to hold things until morning.
